Frente del Palacio Arruabarrena

Palacio Arruabarrena Regional Museum

In the heart of Concordia, facing Plaza Urquiza, stands the Palacio Arruabarrena Regional Museum, one of the most emblematic and valuable buildings in the city and the province, having been declared a National Historic Monument in the year 2021.

Built between 1916 and 1919 during the livestock boom that positioned Concordia as a national hub, this eclectic palace was commissioned by Juan Bautista Arruabarrena, inspired by a French mansion he saw on a trip to Europe; architect Gabriel Dulín designed it and Luis Pepey executed it, providing it with four levels —ground floor for services, first floor for social receptions, second for family bedrooms, and a mansard under a slate roof for guests—, with a marble staircase and a facade that still dazzles.

Inhabited by the Arruabarrena family until the end of 1930, it passed to the Argentine Army and was about to be demolished in 1973, but citizen mobilization allowed its exchange and recovery by the Municipality.

Today, its ornate rooms exhibit collections donated by local families and institutions —furniture, clothing, documents, photographs, toys, medals, weapons, uniforms, and rural pieces— that narrate the collective memory of a thriving and diverse community, inviting the visitor to explore a space where architecture, art, and history dialogue in perfect harmony.

Edificio del Museo Municipal de Artes Visuales

Municipal Museum of Visual Arts

In the center of Concordia is the Municipal Museum of Visual Arts (MAV), the first museum in the city, inaugurated on September 20, 1965, it emerged with the purpose of disseminating regional and national artistic culture, consolidating itself as a pillar in the preservation of local heritage.

The museum occupies a recovered historic building, originally the old Commercial Employees Center, whose architecture adds unique heritage value to the place. Its permanent collection exceeds 500 works, mostly by Argentine visual artists, including paintings, sculptures, and other visual expressions that range from classical to contemporary productions.

Since 2010, the MAV has organized the Bicentennial National Annual Salon, an open call for artists from all over the country that has gained significance in the Argentine artistic calendar. This event not only updates the collection with contemporary works, but also positions Concordia as a high-level stage to exhibit the vanguard of national art.

The MAV invites you to discover its permanent and temporary exhibitions in a welcoming environment that combines history, art, and community, promoting access to Argentine visual creation in all its manifestations.

"Colonel Leopoldo Ornstein" Military Historical Museum

Located in the 6th Tank Cavalry Regiment “Blandengues” of Concordia, with entrance via Arruabarrena street, the "Colonel Leopoldo Ornstein" Military Historical Museum has been operating since 1995. It initially emerged as a small historical room to strengthen identity and the sense of belonging among the unit's members, exhibiting pieces and materials belonging to the barracks.

Over time, the exhibition grew thanks to old items from the regiment, recreations based on research, exchanges, and voluntary donations from military personnel, former members, and the community. This collective contribution has progressively enriched its collection, transforming the space into a significant cultural heritage.

The museum was created to satisfy the cultural needs of both military personnel and society in general, disseminating the legacy of the Blandengues through objects that narrate their role in border history.

This space invites you to explore the evolution of an emblematic unit, where each piece contributes to preserving and sharing the military memory of Concordia.

Maqueta de la represa en el Museo y Centro Cultural Salto Grande

Salto Grande Museum and Cultural Center

Located in the Salto Grande Hydroelectric Complex, about 20 kilometers from Concordia, the Dam Museum opened its doors on September 21, 2002, in the building of the old Ayuí Station of the General Urquiza Railway. Its objective is to permanently exhibit the institutional heritage, rescue the archaeological legacy of the area, and treasure a valuable photographic and documentary collection —from the origins of the dam to the present day—, along with machinery and elements used in its construction and operation.

The museum is established as a point of convergence between art, technology, and the natural environment, providing a space for cultural dissemination where regional artists can exhibit their works periodically.

The museum organizes guided tours of the dam —the first binational one in Latin America—, accompanied by specialized personnel who explain its operation through an institutional video. These activities allow visitors to discover the magnitude of this iconic work between Argentina and Uruguay.

A journey that intertwines the pulse of the turbines with visual memory and artistic creativity, revealing the footprint of Salto Grande in the region.

Jewish Museum of Entre Ríos

In Concordia, the Jewish Museum opened its doors in September 2007, founded by Víctor Oppel (Z”L), a Holocaust survivor who dedicated his life to promoting respect for diversity, intercultural dialogue, and the fight against antisemitism. This space rescues the vibrant history of the "Jewish gauchos", settlers who arrived at the end of the 19th century and populated mainly Entre Ríos, forging a unique identity between Jewish tradition and Argentine rural life.

Its rooms document, compile, and exhibit testimonies of Jewish-Argentine immigration, with an emphasis on the sacrificial but picturesque experiences of the agricultural colonies. Through objects, photographs, and stories, it revives the effort of those who transformed the country into their home, while a special room is dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust.

In the Alberto Gerchunoff room, temporary exhibitions, workshops, conferences, and cultural and charitable activities are held, open to the entire city, fostering Jewish culture in all its expressions and intergenerational dialogue.

A journey that invites you to discover deep roots, where the memory of the pioneers and resilience in the face of adversity intertwine with the pride of a community that enriched the Entre Ríos mosaic.

Castillo San Carlos Interpretation Center

In Concordia, the Castillo San Carlos —built between 1888 and 1891 for the French Demachy family— stands in the San Carlos Park as an icon of European opulence in the Entre Ríos city. Edouard Demachy, a Parisian banker, arrived with his wife Yolande and his son in 1886, bringing luxury and ambition to this growing town.

After auctions and sales, the palace was home to various families; notable is that of the Fuchs-Valon family, who in 1929 received the unexpected visit of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, an aviator of the French airmail, with whom they forged a friendship that inspired local legends. A fire in 1938 left it in ruins, but its mystery endured as part of the folklore of Concordia.

Today, with its restoration and as an Interpretation Center, the site exhibits photographs, documents, and objects that narrate its history: from the arrival of the Demachys to the visit of the author of “The Little Prince”, integrating French architecture with the riverside life of the Uruguay River.

A must-see to relive the splendor of a mansion on green hills, where the aviator adventure and the echo of French immigration intertwine with the natural heritage of Concordia.

Sala del Museo de Antropología y Ciencias Naturales

Museum of Anthropology and Natural Sciences

The Museum of Anthropology and Natural Sciences is located in an old mansion, reopened in 2007 after its origin in 1997; this space preserves, researches, and disseminates the legacy of native cultures and natural history from the origins of the planet.

Its room of Regional Archaeology exhibits material recovered from sites in the old Salto Grande area and the Argentine bank of the Uruguay River, demonstrating the cultural development of indigenous peoples such as Toba, Mbya Guaraní, Mocobí, Wichi, Ona (Selk’nam), Mapuche, Kolla and Diaguita-Calchaquí, with pieces that narrate their daily life and traditions.

In the room of Crafts, ancestral creations from native communities of Argentina and MERCOSUR countries (Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and Paraguay) are presented, transmitted from generation to generation, which fuse utility and art in objects such as textiles and ceramics.

The room of Natural Sciences invites you on a journey through the evolution of life: from invertebrates from 620 million years ago, fossils of Quaternary megafauna (80,000 years ago) from the Concordia department, meteorites from Argentina and the world, to a complete collection of animals, to which a process of taxidermyhas been applied, which represents the native fauna of Entre Ríos. An accessible and inclusive space to explore the natural and cultural wealth of the region.

Fundación Magma

Fundación Magma is a self-managed, non-profit space promoted by residents passionate about art, history, and culture. Since its opening in June 2015, it has operated through pro bono work, without subsidies, and with the voluntary contribution of its members.

Throughout the year, concerts, exhibitions, talks, workshops, and acoustic sessions are held that promote collective creation, strengthen group identity, and resignify the space through citizen participation.

Every artist who passes through Magma leaves their mark: many donate a work that becomes part of the “Magma Collection”, a living heritage that grows with each encounter, reflects the cultural pulse of Concordia, and celebrates the community in motion. In addition, the space has been the setting for projects such as collective murals, poetry cycles, urban interventions, and collaborations with schools, consolidating itself as a creative hub open to the entire city.

Ruinas de la mansión del Naranjal de Pereda al atardecer

Naranjal de Pereda

On the banks of the Uruguay River, the Naranjal de Pereda —formerly known as Paraje Ytú (“waterfall” in Guaraní)— treasures more than three centuries of Concordia's history. A setting for Charrua, Guaraní, Yaro, and Minuane settlements, it was chosen in 1722 by the Jesuits to cultivate orange trees and be part of the yerba mate trade route, and in 1756 the Fuerte San Antonio del Salto Chico was erected, the direct predecessor of Concordia.

Years later, in 1867, Doña Eloísa Acosta de Bica built an Italianate mansion that, after successive owners—meat salting plant owners, landowners, and businessmen—took its current name with Celedonio Pereda in the 20th century, who restored it amidst the economic boom linked to the river as a navigation route.

After decades of abandonment, failed projects, and a fire in 1984, the Municipality of Concordia revitalized it starting in 2016 with cleaning, lighting, and fencing. In 2021 it was declared Architectural-Historical Heritage of Entre Ríos, highlighting its castle with a lookout tower, arched windows, and brick chimney.

Today it offers guided tours that narrate the development of the city from its indigenous and Jesuit origins to its industrial splendor, turning this riverside corner into a space for strolling, memory, and connection with the natural landscape of the Uruguay.

Visita guiada recorriendo las ruinas del Naranjal de Pereda

Museo Domingo Isthilart

Located in the first floor of the “Juana Sarriegui de Isthilart” Nursing Home, the Museum opened in 2015 on the occasion of the institution's 80th anniversary —founded in 1932 by Domingo Isthilart and his wife Juana Sarriegui—, after remodeling two rooms to preserve their memory.

The exhibition brings together objects, photographs, and documents that belonged to residents, employees, and founders, reflecting the “Golden Age” of the home during its peak. Many children and grandchildren of those who worked during that period are part of the staff today, providing precise oral testimonies passed down from generation to generation.

Declared Historical and Cultural Heritage of Concordia by the Deliberative Council in 2019, the building was recognized for its role in providing support to older adults and its historical value.

An intimate space that invites you to explore the living history of an emblematic institution, where care, family tradition, and social legacy are intertwined in every display case.

Provincial Image Museum

The Provincial Image Museum rescues the visual memory of Entre Ríos with a collection that combines nearly 300 antique photographs on display —mainly from Concordia and its surroundings— and a digitized archive of 70,000 images in constant growth, incorporating material from the entire province to preserve its historical heritage.

Along with the photos, cameras from different eras, enlargers, developers, flashes, laboratory trays, developing tanks, manual and automatic slide projectors, and equipment for super 8 filmsare exhibited, objects that narrate the evolution of photographic technique: from the daguerreotype and chemical development to the transition to digital.

The museum especially welcomes school groups that explore local history through images, and makes reproductions, publications, and thematic exhibitions available to researchers, exploring everything from family portraits to landscapes of the Uruguay River and key moments of social life in Entre Ríos.

A journey through time in black and white —and color— where every click captures the life, landscapes, customs, and people who built the region's identity, inviting us to look at the past with today's eyes.
