Within the framework of the process of reorganization and efficiency of the municipal State, the Municipality did not renew more than 130 administrative contracts. The measure affects contracts that end in December and which, after a technical and administrative analysis, were not renewed due to irregularities detected in their origin, including the lack of assigned functions and hirings made at the last minute, without justified operational need. The objective is to take care of public resources, improve the efficiency of the State and guarantee better services for the residents.
“We are taking care of the resources, which do not belong to the government, but to every resident who pays their municipal tax. We received a municipality with contracts signed irregularly, without administrative backing and with clearly proselytizing purposes. They sent a “festival of contracts” that included more than 900 cases, including transfers to permanent staff and contracts in the last months of 2023, before leaving the administration; that cannot be sustained and we are organizing it,” explained the Mayor Francisco Azcué.
Likewise, Azcué explained that the review process responds to criteria of efficiency and equity: “If four people are needed in an area and there are ten hired, it means that we are not being efficient. We have the obligation to be so in order to be able to allocate resources where they are really needed.”
The head of the municipality also emphasized the deeply unfair nature of maintaining this type of link: “It is not fair for the workers or for the residents to maintain this type of contract. It is unfair for those who have an administrative career and for those who make an effort every month to pay their municipal tax.”
Finally, Azcué underlined the objective of the measure: “Organizing today is what allows us to invest tomorrow in public works, in better services and in genuine employment. That is the path we chose for Concordia to grow and it is what we are doing and will deepen during the coming years”.
From the municipality it is clarified that workers are not being fired. What is being done is not renewing administrative contracts that expired in December and that were mostly signed irregularly during the previous administration, without clear functions and many of them with proselytizing purposes.
“It is our obligation and the commitment we made to the people of Concordia to organize the municipality because only by being efficient can we invest in public works, improve services and bet on the generation of genuine employment. This is the course we proposed and we will continue to deepen it during our administration,” concluded Azcué.
