Municipal Historical Archive

The reason for creating an institution that gathers all the documentation that can be found about our city arose from an initiative by Prof. Heriberto Pezzarini.

It was in the year 1994. At that time, he was a council member who, together with his colleague Vicente Giampaolo, presented the draft ordinance for the creation of the Historical Archive to the Honorable Deliberative Council, which was passed unanimously and later enacted under No. 27461 by the then Municipal President Dr. Jorge Busti.

Ordinance No. 27461 creating the Historical Archive establishes as its purpose:

To receive, preserve, organize, and describe, as well as to serve and disseminate, all documentation of official and private origin, as well as the graphic, sound, and newspaper archive.

And it provides that the archive's heritage shall consist of:

  • Historical documentation produced up to the founding of the municipality of Concordia (1873)
  • Municipal documentation transferred after a storage period.
  • Historical, graphic, photocopy, map, plan, sound, film, microfilm, and video documentation existing or to be incorporated
  • The journalistic and bibliographic material from its newspaper library and library
  • Documentation of private or institutional origin that may be received, including from outside of Concordia
  • That of official bodies, transferred through agreements
  • Documentation from municipal powers and bodies, after the 30-year storage period and which has historical value
  • The material that the public can consult is related to customs and port movement, transit trade, import and export; from approximately 1860.
  • Documentation from the Justice of the Peace Archive, with pieces dating back to the height of the Urquiza era (1847) containing correspondence, books, various administrative case files, etc.

Material from the Courts of First Instance in civil, commercial, and criminal matters of historical, social, economic, and political value, with administrative case files from 1872 onwards.

The newspaper library has 540 local newspapers from the late 19th and part of the 20th century (1877 – 1950)

Currently, there is a series of catalogs in the archive that contain summaries of administrative case files on various topics, which represent only a small percentage of the total documents and administrative case files that remain to be processed.

The contribution made by the archive aims to strengthen the development of research focused on knowing the history, the figures, and the institutions that place us as one of the most important cities on the northeast coast of Entre Ríos.

It also offers those interested in knowing their ancestors, or who are conducting research on their predecessors, valid tools that help and encourage such work.

Administrative Organization

Currently, the administration of the archive is organized into the following areas:

Head of the Archive: Prof. Heriberto Pezzarini
Room Manager: Prof. Claudia Ozuna
Room and Documentation Assistant: Alejandra Galeano
Technical Area: Prof. Nicolás Arredondo.
In addition, the Archive has the assistance of Assembly and Maintenance Personnel under the responsibility of Mr. Carlos González and Mr. Raúl Ocampos.
