This Friday, February 23, a Workshop on Sexuality for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Women will be held in the auditorium of the Municipality of Concordia. The initiative was created by sign language interpreter Silvina Helber, who will also be in charge of interpreting it.
The organization of the meeting is a joint effort between the Directorate of Disability and Rehabilitation and the Directorate of Preventive Management of the Municipality of Concordia. Likewise, the organizers highlighted that the purpose of the workshop is to deepen knowledge and care of the body and the prevention of STIs.
In this regard, the director of Disability and Rehabilitation, Valeria Sciammarella, commented: “We understand that deaf and hard-of-hearing women do not have accessibility to all available information (except for what can be read). And, regarding auditory information, they do not. There is a deficit in that aspect,” she stressed.
In that sense, the official maintained that “the workshop arises from a concern of Silvina Helber (sign language interpreter). She has a telephone line through which she communicates with the deaf community and they always ask for her intervention when they are going to carry out a procedure; through video calls, she interprets for these people she is with at the moment,” she detailed.
The activity is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
