The Municipality of Concordia held the Second Assembly of the Municipal Council for Older Adults, a space for participation and collective construction aimed at strengthening public policies intended for the city's older adults.
The session was chaired by the Director of Cooperativism and Associativism, Ariel Gorostegui, and took place in the Meeting Room of the Deliberative Council.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the participation, via Zoom, of Graciela Mantaras, provincial director of Older Adults, who provided a comprehensive view of the sector's situation at the provincial level and emphasized the importance of strengthening joint work between the different levels of the State. In that sense, her intervention was key to enriching the debate and projecting joint lines of action.
During the assembly, the central topic addressed was the issues linked to the deficient provision of health services in Concordia and possible solutions to improve medical care for older adults. Likewise, aspects related to long-term care residences and the need to strengthen controls and operating conditions were analyzed.
In that framework, the fundamental role of the Council in the implementation of public policies that guarantee a better quality of life for older adults was also highlighted.
In this regard, Gorostegui highlighted that “this Council is a key tool to listen to all involved actors and advance in concrete solutions. Our objective is to generate public policies that truly impact the lives of our older adults.”
For her part, the Head of the Department of Third Age Policies, Gladys Portugal, stressed that “these spaces allow for making visible the real problems that older people face and working in an articulated manner to provide responses. It is fundamental to sustain the commitment and participation of all sectors.”
The assembly was attended by Guido Di Gioia, Director of Consumer Protection; Jorge Segovia, representative of retirees; councilwomen Verónica Del Boca and Silvina Ovelar; Andrea Chirino, coordinator of the Provincial Nursing Home; Gladys Portugal; Mercedes Carbonara, president of the Center for Retirees and Pensioners; Guillermo Deymonnaz, head of ANSES UDAI Concordia; Karina Bernardi, head of PAMI UGL XXXIV, along with other local and provincial authorities.
The municipality highlighted the importance of sustaining these forums for dialogue and joint work, which allow for progress in strategic guidelines for the protection and promotion of the rights of older adults.
