The 36th edition of the “San Antonio de Padua” Awards was held at the Convention Center, where more than 100 athletes from different disciplines were honored. The emotional ceremony was attended by mayor Francisco Azcué, municipal cabinet officials, council members, and sports journalists.
During the ceremony, the authorities highlighted the importance of sports as a policy for social inclusion and explained that there will be a joint work agenda with sports institutions and leaders in order to consolidate Concordia as a sports city.
In this sense, the mayor Francisco Azcué highlighted the presentation of these awards, as they contribute to the identity of the people of Concordia: “The symbolic distinction is important because it relates to the award and the specialty in which it was obtained for their achievements, but also to merit. It is something we have been promoting with this idea of the cult of merit, effort, and sacrifice, understanding that some things are set aside to reach a goal; this is what the awards represent.” And he stressed: “Sports have this meaning, and it is the cultural change we need to aim for, the idea that one must strive, that things are not obtained for free, that one must put in work, effort, and sacrifice.”
Likewise, he specified that within his administration, sports will be a fundamental tool for transformation and inclusion. And he specified that for this reason, the Undersecretariat of Sports is within the Secretariat of Human Development, together with Health, Education, Social Development, and Culture.
For her part, the Undersecretary of Sports, Ivana Pérez, expressed her satisfaction with the first challenge of organizing this year's edition, for which they had a great commitment to the activity: “We are very grateful to the organizing committee that had everything planned and had started working months ago, under the previous administration.” Subsequently, she took the opportunity to leave a message to the young athletes who represent us: “I always like to say that the competition is with oneself, to strive and improve day by day and then compete with others; that fills our souls, but what is important are the steps we take to progress.”
For his part, from the organizing committee, Antonio Bachman highlighted that the thirty-sixth edition of the awards is one of the most traditional in the province of Entre Ríos. “The recognition of the athletes and, through them, is also for the family, the coach, the sports leaders, the friends, and those people who make it possible for Concordia to have these beautiful representatives. We saw a nice generational change of athletes; these are the things that make one happy and motivated. I highlight the valuable collaboration of the work group of the San Antonio de Padua Commission that makes this possible.”
