The Municipality of Concordia, through the Secretariat of Human Development and the Secretariat of Health, carried out an intensive training session on early childhood nutrition with the support of the “Pablo Cassará” Foundation and the Center for Studies on Food Policy and Economics (CEPEA).
The training was aimed at professionals working in Municipal Primary Health Care Centers, including the “Dr. Ramón Carrillo” and “La Constitución” Regional Reference Centers, as well as the “La Bianca” CAPS, which report to the Provincial Ministry of Health.
This strategic initiative seeks to provide health teams with cutting-edge tools, directly impacting the well-being of the city's most vulnerable population through a comprehensive approach to maternal and child health.
Mayor Francisco Azcué highlighted that this action is part of the public policies being worked on jointly between the Municipality and the provincial and national governments to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable families: “We are taking care of things that are the future of the city, and doing so with top-level professionals is one of the ways to ensure that we are addressing these needs with the seriousness they deserve.”
In this regard, the Mayor maintained that “addressing child nutrition, in such an important period as 6 to 24 months of life, is fundamental. It is a stage of growth and development where families need to have follow-up so that the nutrient intake of children is necessary and correct.”
Secretary of Human Development Sebastián Arístide, after indicating the importance of having addressed the social issue from different aspects, indicated that often the shortcomings “do not stem from a lack of money but from a series of complex factors that we must address together with the community and other strategic actors,” and in this, the articulation “between the public and private sectors is essential.”
NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS
The training focused on the transfer of knowledge regarding nutritional interventions based on scientific evidence using small-quantity lipid-based nutritional supplements.
In this regard, the Commercial Manager of the “Pablo Cassará” Foundation, Diego Decloux, explained that “the product being used to combat chronic malnutrition has the backing of entities such as the WHO and UNICEF. The idea is to extend this plan to other provinces and work with local and national governments so that more children have access to adequate nutrition.”
Solange Cassará, director of the Foundation, said that “this supplement has more than 15 years of successful results worldwide. We are convinced that this tool can be key in the development of children, especially in situations where families lack access to drinking water and nutrient-rich foods. It is important to address child nutrition in a comprehensive manner, complemented by continuous food education.”
Present were the Secretary of Health Dr. Diego Sauré; Provincial Senator Cielo Espejo; the president of the Administrative Commission for the Special Fund of Salto Grande (CAFESG), Carlos Cecco; the Undersecretary of Social Development Roberto Niez; the Director of Primary Care Dr. Karina Greco; among other authorities.
