On the eve of the national carnival holiday, the "Atanasio Bonfiglio" Corsódromo closed the curtain on the 2019 edition of the biggest summer festival. Both the stands and the VIP sector were filled with the public, who, just like on each of the previous nights, included residents of Concordia and tourists surprised by the spectacle on the track. The last night was special; there were recognitions for prominent figures of the Concordia Carnival, guests, and the first of the site's sanitary complexes was put into operation.
Activities began early on the last night of the parade, which took place this Sunday. The public that entered the site early was able to enjoy the performance of the murgas "Los Embajadores del Ritmo" from Grand Bourg, "Los Únicos" from Villa de Mayo, and "Los Guasones" also from Villa de Mayo, members of the Asociación Civil Murgas Argentinas, who visited the city within the framework of the agreements that the mayor Enrique Cresto promoted for the promotion and cultural development of the Concordia Carnival.
Carnival Representatives
Then it was the turn of a special tribute and recognition to prominent personalities of the festival. Emilce Cristina, one of the symbols of Emperatriz and the most winning figure in the history of the Carnival; Juan Pereya, a member of Ráfaga, who with his life story demonstrates that the carnival is a celebration and that it can be enjoyed despite the obstacles that life presents us, an example of overcoming adversity; "Chiquito" Timón, founder and alma mater of Imperio, whose presence each night of the parade is awaited by every member of that group; Pablo Carayani, a drag actor who revolutionized the Carnival with his alter ego "Sofia Camará", who in addition to having been the Battery Queen of Bella Samba was the Comparsa Queen in 2018, being the first Queen of Diversity of all carnivals at the South American level, in a clear example of inclusion and respect for diversity and the rights of all; and Agustina Barrio, 2018 Carnival queen and Second Princess of the Entre Ríos Carnivals 2019, was named Cultural Promoter of the Carnival, highlighting the work of promoting the festival and the city that she carried out throughout the country; these were the distinguished personalities.
The mayor Enrique Cresto, the director of the Carnival Entity Sebastián Cuberli, the Secretary of Government and Tourism Alfredo Francolini, the Secretary of Sports Marcelo Cresto, the Director of Preventive Management and Promotion Agnes Perez, and the coordinator of the sexual diversity area of the Secretariat of Human Development, Dario Perez, were in charge of presenting the various recognitions that took place in the center of the Corsódromo Avenue, "the place where the makers of the Carnival should be honored," as highlighted by "Pelusa" Araya, host and entertainer of the event.
More works revaluing the site
During the night, the sanitary complex that the mayor Enrique Cresto inaugurated was put into operation, in the area of the access to the VIP sector. This work is part of the various projects that have been carried out on the site within the "Parque Estación Central de la Concordia" project, which repurposes the entire site of the former North station into a large fair and event venue, integrating with the Convention Center and the Open-Air Popular Market, whose construction the Municipality together with the Provincial Government has initiated.
The parade began around 11:00 PM with the entry of Imperio, the title defender, and then continued with the presentations of Ráfaga, Emperatriz, and finally Bella Samba, which closed the curtain on the 2019 edition, making all the stands sing and dance.
This Wednesday, March 6, the scrutiny of the jury's votes will take place, starting at 3:00 PM at the Teatro Auditorium, with the new winners of the most passionate carnival in the country being announced at sunset.
