In the framework of International Women's Day, the Costa Ciencia Interactive Museum, under the Undersecretariat of Education and Culture of the Municipality of Concordia, will carry out the presentation of the publication “Argentine Women in Science: References and Protagonists”, a proposal that seeks to make visible the contribution of female scientists to the development of knowledge in our country.
The activity is carried out in coordination with the National Technological University (UTN) Concordia Regional Faculty and features the participation of Dr. Nora Burroni, researcher at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and CONICET.
The publication gathers 34 works by Argentine researchers, who share in the first person their research, experiences, and reflections on the challenges and achievements of doing science in Argentina. It is a material that not only compiles academic contributions but also produces memory and values the role of women as protagonists of the national scientific system.
The authors carry out their tasks in different provinces of the country, including Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, Mendoza, La Rioja, San Luis, Santa Cruz, and Tucumán, reflecting the territorial and disciplinary diversity of Argentine science. The research presented spans multiple fields of knowledge, from biology, mathematics, physics, and engineering to food security, legislation, the anthropology of food cultures, public health, and the environment.
The Undersecretary of Education and Culture of the Municipality of Concordia, Prof. Carlos Gatto, highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that “this publication represents a recognition of the enormous work carried out by Argentine female scientists, but it is also an invitation to look at science from a broader perspective, where women have a fundamental role in the generation of knowledge and in the transformation of our society”.
Likewise, he remarked that “from the Costa Ciencia Interactive Museum we seek to bring science closer to the community, and especially to inspire new generations to discover in scientific knowledge a possible path of development, innovation, and commitment to the country”.
The presentation will take place on Saturday, March 7, at 8:00 PM, at the Costa Ciencia Interactive Museum, and is open to the entire community.
The proposal constitutes a tribute to Argentine female scientists and, at the same time, an affirmation of the central place that women occupy in the production of knowledge and in the scientific development of Argentina.
