The Secretariat of Productive Development of the Municipality of Concordia held a training session on Winter Gardens and Healthy Eating, aimed at senior citizens of the city, at the facilities of the Benito Legerén Retirees Center.
The activity was led by engineer Gabriel Zubizarreta, who provided practical tools for the planning and cultivation of seasonal gardens, in addition to sharing recommendations related to healthy eating, promoting habits that contribute to improving the quality of life and well-being of senior citizens.
During the meeting, participants exchanged experiences, asked questions, and acquired knowledge about the production of fresh food for family consumption, thus strengthening autonomy, health care, and sustainable practices.
The head of the Department of Policies for the Elderly, Gladys Portugal, highlighted the importance of these types of proposals by pointing out that “our objective is to generate spaces where senior citizens can continue learning, sharing experiences, and acquiring tools that improve their quality of life. Gardens not only provide healthy food, but also strengthen physical and emotional well-being and community ties.”
For his part, the coordinator of the program's territorial teams, Martín Laffite, remarked that “these activities allow public policies to be brought closer to the neighborhoods and to work together with retirees' centers, strengthening their role as spaces for participation, meeting, and the promotion of healthy habits.”
Within the framework of the day, the Department of Policies for the Elderly also made a donation of books to the library of the Benito Legerén Retirees Center, with the purpose of strengthening that space for reading and meeting for its members, promoting access to culture and lifelong learning.
With this proposal, the Municipality of Concordia continues to promote actions aimed at the well-being of senior citizens, promoting healthy eating, food production, and the strengthening of a more active, participatory, and sustainable community.
