Mayor Francisco Azcué led a new cabinet meeting in which a technical follow-up was carried out on the main projects promoted by the Municipality of Concordia regarding infrastructure, territorial development, and strategic planning.
During the meeting, the execution status of the Infrastructure and Development Plan towards the Bicentennial was evaluated, as well as the progress of the efforts related to the dredging of the Paso San Francisco together with the Administrative Commission of the Uruguay River (CARU) and the organization of the XX Spatial Data Infrastructure Days of the Argentine Republic (IDERA), which will take place from July 1 to 3 in the city.
INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN PROGRESS
First, the Secretary of Public Works, Fernando Esquibel, presented an updated report on the works currently under execution, the ongoing bidding processes, and the upcoming planned interventions.
Currently, the municipality has nine works in execution or scheduled, including the first stage of the Paving Plan, the repaving of Ricardo Rojas street, the Plaza de la Cultura, the Salto Uruguayo Canal, curb and gutter works, and the construction of the Mirage aircraft pedestal, in addition to new projects scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
At the same time, it was reported that six bidding processes are in different administrative stages, including the second stage of the Paving Plan, the installation of new bus shelters, pothole repair work, paving, and future road infrastructure works.
The analysis allowed for reviewing the physical and administrative progress of each intervention and coordinating actions to ensure compliance with the established deadlines.
Concordia PREPARES TO HOST THE XX IDERA DAYS
Another central topic was the organization of the XX IDERA Days and the United Nations Seminar in South America, the most important meeting in the country regarding geospatial information and territorial intelligence, which will bring together national, provincial, and municipal authorities, universities, and international organizations in Concordia.
Under the slogan "Data that connects territories, intelligent decisions that drive development," the event will position the city as a venue for an exchange space on technologies, territorial planning, and evidence-based public management.
During the meeting, the importance of this activity was highlighted to strengthen the capacities of local governments in decision-making, incorporating tools that allow for optimizing resources, improving planning, and providing more efficient responses to the demands of the residents.
EFFORTS TO ADVANCE THE DREDGING OF PASO SAN FRANCISCO
For his part, the Secretary of Productive Development, Sebastián Arístides, presented a report on the technical meeting held with specialists from the Administrative Commission of the Uruguay River (CARU), within the framework of the efforts promoted by the municipality to improve the navigability of the Uruguay River as part of the Barge Port Project, modernization of the Industrial Park, and a Logistics Activities Zone.
The technicians confirmed the conclusions previously prepared by the consulting firm SERMAN, which was in charge of the feasibility project, and pointed out that the priority works to guarantee the navigation of three-barge convoys between Colón-Paysandú and Concordia-Salto are the dredging of the Paso San Francisco —in a section of approximately 2.3 kilometers— and the execution of the corresponding buoyage tasks.
In closing, it was agreed to continue promoting the necessary political and administrative efforts, also encouraging the support of the authorities of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, considering the strategic impact and the binational benefit that this work represents for the logistical, productive, and port development of the region.
