The Secretariat of Public Works of the Municipality of Concordia continues working on the cleaning and sanitation of storm drains, which play a fundamental role during days of heavy rainfall. The community is requested to collaborate with their care by not throwing away items that obstruct their operation, as these prevent the rapid drainage of water, causing waterlogging or flooding.
One of the sectors where cleaning tasks were carried out was on Cadario Street, in one of the culverts located over the Manzores stream. A significant amount of waste was removed from the site, much of it household waste.
The work was carried out by the Logistics and Technical Area of Storm Drain Cleaning with the objective of clearing the sector and preventing waterlogging, since during one of the last rains, the flow exceeded the road levels, causing flooding and difficulties in vehicular circulation.
In this regard, Gabriel Noguera, head of the area, explained that it was a complex intervention due to the large amount of waste accumulated at the site: “In the cleaning of one of the culverts over the Manzores stream, we found sticks, branches, and a lot of household waste, which prevented the water from flowing without difficulties.”
In that sense, he highlighted the importance of the collaboration of the citizenry to sustain the sanitation work that is carried out permanently in different parts of the city, since “beyond the work that the Municipality carries out every day, the collaboration of the resident is fundamental, by not throwing trash into the streams and using the authorized containers: without social awareness, it is impossible for the State to reach everywhere.”
Finally, it was highlighted that these tasks are part of a continuous plan for cleaning and maintenance of storm drains and stream channels, with brigades that intervene in different sectors of the city, aiming to reduce water risks, improve environmental quality, and protect the population.
