This Tuesday, the Health Secretariat, through the Immunization area, carried out an important vaccination day at the Municipal Transit Home, located in the former Bagley factory, aimed at people experiencing homelessness or social vulnerability.
During the day, various vaccines were administered to about 20 people, within the framework of a health strategy that seeks to increase immunization coverage and guarantee equitable and free access to vaccination, as one of the main tools for public health prevention.
The activity was attended by Dr. Karina Greco, Director of Primary Care, and Lic. Melina Simonetti, from the Immunization area, with the accompaniment of the head of the home, Lic. Eloisa Gómez Castro.
In this sense, Dr. Greco highlighted that "for the Secretariat, these types of actions are of utmost importance, as they represent one of the main strategies for public health prevention. Vaccines protect the population from serious diseases that can lead to complications, disability, and even death."
Likewise, she added that “the administration of vaccines contributes to reducing the circulation of viruses or bacteria, providing individual and collective protection, known as 'herd immunity'”.
Greco also remarked that “these sessions allow for the reduction of outbreaks and epidemics, ensuring equitable access to vaccines. This is beneficial not only for individuals but also for the health system, as it prevents diseases that, if not controlled, would imply a higher health and social cost.”
