Led by mayor Enrique Cresto and members of the War Veterans Center of our city, in the early hours of this April 2nd, an emotional ceremony was held for the Day of the Veterans and Fallen of the Malvinas War, which was attended by a significant number of residents who paid tribute and recognition to the soldiers who went to give their lives for the Islands.
The activities began in the late hours of Sunday, April 1st, with the Vigil at the Costanera of Concordia, on Playa Los Sauces, and the exhibition of the different forces based in the city. Once April 2nd had begun, the traditional Landing Simulation was carried out.
Regarding such an emotional commemorative date, mayor Enrique Cresto pointed out that “it is important for the community to accompany this act, especially the children and young people, because that guarantees us that there is no forgetting, and a sense of belonging and sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands is being fostered in them,” adding that time will be the protagonist of their recovery “because there are plenty of historical, geographical, and legal arguments, and the endorsement of a large sector of the international community” for that to happen.
“This is an embrace that the entire people of Concordia give to our Malvinas heroes,” remarked the Municipal President, who affirmed that only by maintaining unity as a society, “will it allow us to have our flag on the Islands again, and a sign of this is what happens in our city because when the unity of the people was needed, we moved forward, even in the most complicated moments.”
“THE REMEMBRANCE FOR THOSE WHO CONTINUE TO DEFEND THE ISLANDS”
Rodolfo Razzeto, president of the War Veterans Center, thanked the Municipality of Concordia and the entire community for accompanying them on this date so special to all Argentines. “We are filled with memories because we feel in our skin again what it meant to prepare ourselves to go in defense of our lands, and today the greatest tribute is for those who remained on the Islands, who continue to defend them, entrenched from Darwin.”
For his part, Flavio Emparanza, a war veteran from General Campos, also thanked “the people of Concordia for the permanent support to the soldiers. These are days in which everything we went through 36 years ago is relived, and it is important not to feel alone but to know and see that people have the Malvinas very present.”
“With the identification of our comrades on the Islands, it is as if the wounds are closing a little,” affirmed Martín Albornos, a Malvinas veteran, “because there are mothers who were able to meet their children on that little piece of land that belongs to us and for which they gave their lives.”
TRIBUTE TO THE ARA “SAN JUAN”
Another moment that moved the night was the recognition and tribute paid to the crew members of the submarine “ARA San Juan” in general and to Fernando Mendoza, a Concordia native who is part of the 44 heroes whom the Argentine people are waiting for.
Present were the vice-mayor and president of the Deliberative Council Armando Gay, provincial deputy Joaquin La Madrid, the mayor's wife, Leticia Ponzinibbio, councilman Alberto Armanazqui, councilwoman Carola Laner, CTM president Roberto Niez, members of the Armed and Security Forces, as well as representatives of different institutions and organizations of the city, in addition to the general public.
