The administrative entity of the Concordia “Comodoro JJ Pierrestegui” Airport informs the community about the current status of the authorization within the framework of the efforts carried out by the Municipality of Concordia together with provincial and national agencies.
In the month of March, the Provincial Executing Unit (UEP), under the Ministry of Planning, Infrastructure and Services of Entre Ríos, formally requested the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) to conduct a technical inspection of the work. Said inspection was carried out on April 15 and 16 with the participation of different areas of the ANAC, which evaluated key aspects regarding infrastructure and operational safety.
It should be noted that the UEP is the provincial agency in charge of coordinating, formulating, executing, and supervising investment projects that have financing from institutions. In this case, it is responsible for the execution of the IDB loan for the adaptation of the airport in Concordia.
On May 20, preliminary reports were received, which were sent by the ANAC to the UEP through the Regulatory Body of the National Airport System (ORSNA). This body was also responsible for distributing the Phase 1 Project and the Executive Project to the different actors of the airport community for their review: Airport Security Police (PSA), National Meteorological Service (SMN), the ANAC itself, and the Argentine Air Navigation Company (EANA).
Based on the observations made, the UEP, through the contractor companies, is working on the resolution of technical aspects necessary for the authorization. Regarding the Firefighting and Rescue Service (SEI), an essential requirement that is defined according to the type of aircraft operating at each airport, the Comodoro Pierrestegui could begin its operations under Category I (general aviation) by relying on the service of the Zapadores Firefighters.
To this end, the Municipality of Concordia, through the EDAAC, is managing the commissioning of a fire truck that allows for meeting this initial requirement and is carrying out negotiations with the Police of Entre Ríos in order to finalize the corresponding agreements to implement said service.
In parallel, progress is being made in the efforts to incorporate a vehicle with greater capacity that will allow for raising the airport's category and carrying out commercial aviation flights. It should be noted that, although the UEP had managed the purchase of an ARFF 6x6 fire truck, with technical specifications approved by the ANAC and validated by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the agency financing the project, the first national public tender (01/2024) failed because neither of the two bidders met the requirements established in the bidding documents.
At this moment, new efforts are being made to finalize the purchase, which will extend the initially foreseen deadlines, but it continues to be a priority to complete the process of starting up the airport in its maximum category.
