An emotional ceremony marked Friday afternoon with the unveiling of the plaques that formalize the new name of the Museum of Anthropology and Natural Sciences, a moment of profound significance for the history of the institution and the community.
The official ceremony was attended by the Vice Mayor and President of the Deliberative Council Magdalena Reta de Urquiza; Councilman Emmanuel Godoy; the Coordinator of the Undersecretariat of Tourism, Marcelo Spomer, and museum staff. The event transcended borders, with the presence of authorities from the Archaeological and Natural Sciences Museum of the neighboring city of Salto (R.O.U.).
The occasion was filled with special emotion by the presence of the three children of the honoree, Nelson Oscar Vassallo: Jorge, José Luis, and Cristina, who attended along with descendants, family members, and friends. Former members of the Association for the Study and Natural Sciences also accompanied, along with residents of the community.
On this occasion, Reta de Urquiza, museologist Silvia Cettour, Head of the Museum Department, and museologist Elsa Cristina Vassallo, daughter of the honoree and the first director and ideologue of the institution, spoke, accompanied by her siblings. In each of the speeches, Vassallo's legacy, his dedication, and work by and for the community of Concordia were present.
After the unveiling of the plaques, those present shared conversations and tasted regional flavors at the "Concordia in your senses" stand, in addition to touring the rooms and the new temporary exhibition on myths and legends of the littoral.
The board and staff of the museum thank everyone who accompanied them in this significant moment for the history of the institution.
