On Saturday afternoon, the Raid Latécoère-Aéropostale arrived at the Concordia “Comodoro Pierrestegui” Airport, a journey that reconstructs the historic route of the Argentine airmail line, paying tribute to aviation pioneers and commemorating the route once flown by French Air Mail pilots, including Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Four aircraft arrived with pilots from France and Switzerland, who were welcomed at the Castillo San Carlos by mayor Francisco Azcué along with representatives of the French, Swiss, and Brazilian communities, as well as members of the Alliance Française. The goal was to visit the place that inspired Saint-Exupéry to write the iconic “The Little Prince” and “Wind, Sand and Stars”.
Carlos Rendo, coordinator of the experience, noted that “our goal is to fly all the Aéropostale routes, and Concordia is on the route that connected Buenos Aires with Paraguay. In that context, what we also do is recover vestiges and visit historical sites, and this place is one of them. For us, it is a historic stage of the routes, and we are very happy to have arrived and for the reception we received from everyone”.
Mayor Azcué remarked that “this route is also part of our identity and our history because it is the one used by Saint-Exupéry, through which he arrived in our city, and from that, what we all already know it meant starting with The Little Prince, one of the most read literary works in the world. We hope this visit is repeated and that we can continue to strengthen this bond, which is very important”.
ABOUT THE RAID LATÉCOÈRE – AEROPOSTALE
The Pierre-Georges Latécoère Aeroclub, founded in 2008, is a non-profit association. The main objective of the APGL is to “connect people through the airline” by means of different projects, to continue the Memory of the Latécoère and Aeropostal Lines, participating in solidarity, cultural, and environmental actions.
The initiative, which attracts aviation enthusiasts from all over the world, keeps alive the memory of those who marked a milestone in the history of air transport.
