Within the framework of the Infrastructure and Development Plan towards the Bicentennial, the Municipality of Concordia is advancing with the construction of a culvert on boulevard Ayuí, a hydraulic project intended to resolve the historical flooding problems that occurred in this sector of the city during days of heavy rain.
The works aim to channel water surpluses and improve circulation conditions, while also considering the natural characteristics of the area, which is part of a wetland system.
In this regard, the mayor Francisco Azcué highlighted the importance of the intervention: “within the framework of the Infrastructure Plan, we are advancing with this hydraulic project on boulevard Ayuí, which is very important because this street, every time it rained, would become waterlogged and flooded. Here there is an area that has wetlands, there are different channels, and transitability was complicated”.
“The city grew and the infrastructure works were not carried out so that this growth would be orderly, so that a better quality of life for the residents would be possible, so now we are doing what should have been done many years ago”, remarked Azcué.
PLANNING AND OWN RESOURCES
Azcué highlighted that these works are carried out with municipal resources, therefore “hence the importance of having our own infrastructure plan, which is projected based on what we already know about the works we are going to carry out next year. By doing it with our own resources, we can plan the growth of the city, which is the great problem of Concordia: it grew for 40 years in a disorderly way and without planning, and today it is being done in an orderly manner”.
For his part, the Secretary of Public Works, Fernando Esquibel, explained: “This is a hydraulic and engineering project where we have a very significant water flow, with a large volume that flooded this circulation artery, which is a connecting axis between the east and west of the city and which the residents use a lot”.
Esquibel also explained that “the area connects two wetlands: towards the north and towards the south, and in turn has a large number of discharges onto this wetland that come from the area of the Masvernat Hospital, collecting water, and continues to the lowlands of the Ayuí. It is a watercourse that we try to contain and channel so that the wetlands continue to work as they should, since they are water retainers and important for the city, but also so that one can circulate through the place without problems”.
