This Friday, Governor Rogelio Frigerio and the mayor of Concordia, Francisco Azcue, toured the cleaning and sanitation works of the Manzores stream, an intervention aimed at improving drainage conditions and reducing potential risks in the face of adverse weather events.
"We were with the mayor touring the works on the Manzores stream, which are being carried out with a machine provided by our Argentine Delegation of Salto Grande (CTM). This machine is working here now and will later continue in other streams in the province," highlighted Frigerio.
The tasks are being developed within the framework of the collaboration between the Argentine Delegation of the Mixed Technical Commission of Salto Grande and the Municipality of Concordia. The intervention includes the cleaning of the main channel and secondary channels, along with the removal of sediment, sand, mud, waste, branches, fallen trees, and vegetation that may obstruct the normal flow of water. "At the same time, there are other machines working in different parts of the Paraná coast, carrying out works that had not been done for a very long time. The mayor told me that, since he was a child, he did not remember seeing machines cleaning the Manzores," the governor noted.
The operation also includes the cleaning and clearing of grates, culverts, crossings, and other structures linked to the stream's path. The extracted material will be loaded, transported, and removed in a coordinated manner, with the objective of avoiding its accumulation and optimizing execution times.
"This is happening throughout the length and breadth of the province's streams. We have to clean them and keep them in good condition so that the water can flow better when the flood arrives. It is a preventive task that we are doing to be better prepared for the weather events that may come," remarked Frigerio, accompanied by the president of the Argentine Delegation to the Mixed Technical Commission of Salto Grande, Alejandro Daneri, and the Minister of Economy and Public Services, Fabián Boleas.
Mayor Azcué, for his part, highlighted the joint work with the Province and Salto Grande, as this allows for preventive actions to be carried out in view of the possible effects of the El Niño phenomenon in Concordia.
The works feature a crawler excavator provided by the Argentine Delegation of CTM, in addition to a flatbed trailer and a tractor truck for the transport of the machinery. The Municipality of Concordia provides trucks for loading and transporting the material and municipal crews for manual cleaning and clearing tasks.
The intervention covers approximately four kilometers of the Manzores stream, divided into ten work sectors according to the main arteries that cross or delimit its path. The tasks are executed progressively from downstream to upstream, with a sequence that may be adjusted according to accessibility, safety, and weather conditions.
The sanitation also constitutes a preventive measure against possible intense rainfall and flooding of the Uruguay River, which could generate a backwater effect and decrease the stream's discharge capacity. For this reason, the actions seek to anticipate scenarios that could affect drainage and cause flooding.
An execution period of between four and five months is estimated, subject to weather conditions, the state of the terrain, and the characteristics of each sector.
The planning contemplates the permanent coordination of excavation, cleaning, clearing, loading, and transport tasks to advance progressively throughout the planned section.
