The Municipality of Concordia, through the Secretariat of Public Services, has been working steadily on the care and maintenance of the city's various public spaces, which number more than 150.
With the intervention of the Directorate of Parks and Promenades and coordinated work with cooperatives, daily cleaning of squares and small plazas, care, installation and repair of playground equipment, grass cutting, and weed control are carried out, among other actions.
In all of this, the collaboration of the community is important, which is why the aim is to strengthen civic awareness regarding the importance of preserving public spaces, understanding that their maintenance does not depend solely on municipal work, but also on the commitment of the entire community. Taking care of the squares, respecting the trees, avoiding littering, and preserving urban furniture are simple gestures that, added together, make a big difference.
PERMANENT INTERVENTIONS
Regarding permanent interventions, work is being carried out in strategic sectors such as Costanera, Villa Zorraquín, the Regiment area, the Airport, and San Carlos, where grass cutting and weed control tasks are performed.
Daily work includes attending to pruning, removals, and emergencies, with an average of five requests per day, as well as the repair of playground equipment and urban furniture. In 2025, 103 swings and 13 jungle gyms were repaired, nearly 50 benches were restored, and 25 new benches were installed, in addition to the installation of 10 soccer goals and signage.
Local crews and cooperatives play a key role in these tasks, with an average of 80 monthly interventions and regular maintenance in 155 public spaces. The work is complemented by the labor of the park attendants, who are in charge of irrigation, cleaning, and daily monitoring in the main squares: 25 de Mayo, Urquiza, De las Américas, España, Ferré, and Zorraquín.
In addition, the Sponsorship Program was launched, which encourages institutions, clubs, companies, or individuals to take charge of the maintenance and enhancement of squares and public spaces. In exchange for maintenance, sponsors will receive publicity for their participation and discounts on municipal taxes.
CHALLENGES AND PROJECTIONS
The Directorate of Parks and Promenades of the Municipality of Concordia projects a 2026 with the commitment to sustain and deepen the actions that strengthen the city's green heritage. Among the main challenges are the need to modernize equipment, expand work crews, and optimize coordination with other municipal areas, which are key factors for improving efficiency in daily tasks.
“Looking ahead to next year, the department plans to move forward with the implementation of an annual urban tree maintenance schedule, which will allow for the organization of interventions and the establishment of priorities according to the needs of each area. We will also strengthen the technical training of cooperatives and municipal crews, incorporating new tools and updated criteria for pruning, irrigation, and conservation of spaces,” anticipated the Secretary of Public Services, Alejandro López.
Efforts will continue to promote the square sponsorship program, encouraging greater participation from schools, neighborhood organizations, and local institutions in the care of public spaces.
“These initiatives are part of a strategy that aims to consolidate a more planned, efficient, and participatory management, aligned with preserving and expanding the green infrastructure that improves the quality of life in Concordia,” remarked López.
