The Municipality of Concordia held the Ninth Assembly of the Municipal Council for Older Adults, a space for participation and institutional coordination aimed at addressing the main needs and issues related to the city's older adults.

Participants in the Assembly included the Secretary of Government, Patricia Rodríguez; Provincial Deputy Marcelo López; Councilwomen Celeste Fuscado and Verónica del Boca; the Director of Cooperativism and Associativism, Ariel Gorostegui; the Head of the Department of Senior Citizen Policies, Gladys Portugal; Margarita Cámara, representative of the “Gruta de Lourdes” Grandparents' Home; Andrea Chirino, coordinator of the Isthilart Home; Victoria Jáuregui, and representatives from the various retirement centers in the city.
One of the main topics addressed during the day was the situation of long-term care residences for older adults, raising the need to advance in a specific approach to the regulation, authorization, and control of these establishments.
In this context, the importance of strengthening institutional tools that allow for guaranteeing adequate conditions of infrastructure, attention, care, and protection of the rights of the older adults residing in these spaces was highlighted.
Likewise, the limited existing infrastructure to provide free long-term residential services or services intended for older adults who do not have sufficient economic resources was highlighted, a situation that requires continued analysis from a comprehensive perspective.
Another point raised was the need to have updated statistical information on the demand for these services in Concordia. The availability of data will allow for a more precise understanding of the reality of older adults who require long-term residence and constitutes a fundamental tool for the planning and definition of public policies.
During the meeting, the existence of specific provincial legislation regarding the regulation of long-term residences and their corresponding regulatory decrees was also analyzed, considering the importance of knowing and articulating this regulatory framework with the provisions and mechanisms in force at the municipal level.
