Last Thursday night, the "San Antonio de Padua" Awards ceremony was held, in which athletes from different disciplines were distinguished, an activity that was attended by Mayor Francisco Azcué, municipal cabinet officials, council members, sports journalists, and the general public.
It was precisely some of the award winners who highlighted the value and meaning for them of receiving such recognition.
Triathlete Alejandro Ricagno expressed that “it is a source of pride and great happiness; for the second consecutive year, I have been nominated by the press to receive the San Antonio. This has been a very good year, just like last year. I am starting the triathlon season; this Sunday we have the second event, so I am already thinking about what is coming and about 2024. It is always nice to receive this distinction; the San Antonio is a treat for the athlete, and that is why we must value it, because it recognizes everything the athlete has done throughout the year.”
Juan Pablo Capovila also highlighted the recognition received, as it takes place in our city, with all that this implies. When it came time for acknowledgments, he thanked his family “and my coach, who deserve a special mention for all the achievements reached. Weightlifting is not a common sport, but since last year it has been awarded, and it is something beautiful for all of us,” he highlighted.
Biker Belén Labriola, for her part, said she felt “very happy to have been nominated and to receive this award. It is the first time I have received it in this sport. In previous years, I have been in other disciplines. It is a very important recognition because behind an athlete there are many people working, many people who help, as well as many hours of training and, depending on the discipline, there are economic expenses. When there is not much support, family is always there, and I believe that one reaches this place, in large part, because of that unconditional support. That was my case, which is why I am eternally grateful to them and to my older sister, who was the one who encouraged me to do this.”
