The Tihany circus is full of wonderful stories, and that of Concordia native Natalia Delaloye, a lead dancer of the local carnival, is one of them. She is a dancer, a student of Choreographic Composition with a mention in Musical Comedy at the National University of the Arts, and undoubtedly a representative of the greatest summer festival in Concordia, but today she travels the world with the international company, providing a magical, entertaining, unforgettable, and high-quality show for all tastes and ages.
Natalia began by commenting that she is currently part of Circo Tihany, which is the largest in Latin America and one of the three largest in the world; more than 120 people work there, plus those hired in each city, there are more than 15 nationalities in the staging, and it has a capacity for more than 1700 people.
The circus is already more than 60 years old since its creation; Mr. Tihany, of Hungarian origin, was its creator in Brazil, but they are currently presenting the AbraKadabra show, which was produced in Las Vegas.
The young woman recounted that she arrived at this show because “one of the Argentine dancers is also a native of Concordia, and the circus was looking for dancers; after a recommendation from the director of a dance academy in our city, her name came up for the first time,” mentioning that “I got in touch with the captain, to whom I had to send videos, photos, and a resume, and when my incorporation was arranged and I was given the flight date, in one week I was in Tihany, in Brazil,” adding that “from that moment on, everything was very fast, very beautiful, and unexpected, stepping onto a 700-square-meter stage in front of almost 2,000 people per show,” expresses Natalia, noting that she is part of the official dance troupe along with 16 dancers from England, Brazil, Argentina, Mongolia, Russia, and Belarus.
Her roots in the Concordia Carnival
The dancer participated for 6 years in the greatest festival of the Concordia summer; her beginnings were as a lead dancer at the front of the tricolor group “Ráfaga”, then she won the figure of baton twirler in 2016, and in 2018 she dazzled with her dance and charisma, being the Queen of the drum section, escorted by the Nota 1000 drum section.
The Concordia Carnival “regardless of the group you belong to, the members, the public, the carnival participants, we all share the passion for this festival, from the member who dedicates time, energy, and money, the family that is always present supporting, the public, and everything that the behind-the-scenes entails, all motivated by passion”.
Natalia added, “the best thing our carnival has is everything it generates in the people of Concordia, the potential that exists from the people, what the festival causes in the city”. Furthermore, she commented that although she chose dance as a profession, “the Carnival is my hobby, my passion; I have dedicated my summers to the carnival because I love it and I enjoy it a lot,” emphasizing that her time at the “Atanasio Bonfiglio” Corsódromo and the exposure to an immense public helped her feel more comfortable when stepping onto the stage of the circus show”.
The young woman confirmed that this year she has no plans to participate again in the Concordia Carnival, although she has received proposals and invitations, but “the truth is that at any moment I will return to dance because I feel comfortable on that track, I can be myself, it is my city; in reality, that Corsódromo is my home,” she expressed, ratifying that “if I have the opportunity, I will return to live that unique experience that is our festival”.
Likewise, Natalia said that she is very grateful that her group keeps her in mind to represent them, and that although at this moment she cannot fulfill it, “it is a caress to the soul that they consider me up to the level of the show,” she valued.
Remembering her time at the carnival, Natalia confessed that although the festival is not the same style of dance and music as the circus show, there are many issues that helped her feel more secure in her current work present, exemplifying that “thanks to the carnival I went to a radio station for the first time, and here I will be all the time doing promotions and interviews,” in addition to the use of backpieces, makeup, and quick changes to enter the scene, for which “indirectly, the carnival has been a very rich experience for my training as an artist”.
