Raquel Colombani and Juan Carlos Mendoza, parents of the submariner from Concordia of the ARA San Juan, Fernando Mendoza, were received by the mayor Enrique Cresto, who reiterated his support and availability to the family. During the meeting, different initiatives emerged that will begin to be carried out in the city, to always keep Fernando and his 43 crewmates present.
"It was a very pleasant, very nice meeting and we hope that we can move forward with everything we discussed to pay tribute to Fernando and his 43 crewmates," said Raquel at the end of the meeting, in which councilwoman Julia Saenz, the Secretary of Government and Tourism, Alfredo Francolini, the Secretary of Communication and Cultural Development Luis Santana, and the Director of Culture Marcelo Franco also participated. Raquel pointed out that the relatives of those who crewed the ARA San Juan want "for it not to be forgotten, because it is a very painful moment not knowing what happened or where they are."
The mayor informed Fernando Mendoza's relatives that the decision had been made for the 2018 school year of the Trade School to be named "ARA San Juan," and that work will begin on creating a traveling exhibition that allows people to learn about the history of the submarine and each of its crew members. It would initially be exhibited in the exhibition hall of the Civic Center, and would then be made available to schools and institutions to tour the city. In addition, the possibility of creating a mural in the vicinity of the Costanera was discussed, among other proposals that emerged during the conversation between the mayor and the relatives.
