In the framework of the first meeting between the Mayors of Concordia, Francisco Azcué, and Salto, Carlos Albisu, where it was agreed to advance a common agenda to strengthen ties between both banks of the Uruguay River, one of the topics addressed was the development of joint actions in the educational and cultural spheres.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Undersecretary of Culture and Education, Prof. Carlos Gatto, the articulated work being promoted within the framework of the 1st Provincial Book Fair, which will be held on September 4, 5, and 6 at the Concordia Convention Center, was highlighted.
The fair, organized by the Government of Entre Ríos and the Municipality of Concordia, represents a unique opportunity to project the literary and editorial heritage of the region with an integrative perspective and international reach. Therefore, one of the most relevant points will be the participation of proposals that link both cities, such as the “Literary Vessel,” a boat tour between Concordia and Salto that will invite participants to share readings by poets from both banks, and the “Literary Bus,” which will tour historical and cultural spaces of the host city.
“The cultural dialogue with Salto has enormous symbolic and concrete potential,” expressed Undersecretary Carlos Gatto. “Working together on the promotion of reading, the circulation of editorial productions, and the construction of a shared identity through art and the word is one of the challenges we take on with enthusiasm alongside Mayor Azcué.”
Gatto also remarked that “the Provincial Book Fair is not only an educational and cultural event of enormous hierarchy; it is also a platform to reaffirm regional integration and exchange between sister communities. This work with the Salto Mayor's Office allows us to broaden horizons and think of new forms of educational and cultural cooperation.”
The 1st Provincial Book Fair will include, among many other activities, workshops, shows for children, book presentations, and discussions with renowned national and international writers, all with free and open access. From the Undersecretariat of Education and Culture, active work is being done so that this experience leaves a mark on students, teachers, and readers on both sides of the river.
With these types of initiatives, Concordia and Salto continue to consolidate a binational agenda based on cooperation, respect for diversity, and the joint construction of a future with more culture, more education, and more integration.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Salto Mayor's Office, Walter Texeira Núñez, the Director of Culture Pablo Bonet, the Director of Education of the Undersecretariat of Culture of Concordia, Nélida Amam, and Patricia Jaluf, head of the Municipal Libraries of our city.
