Within the framework of the regional integration and strengthening of the productive framework policies carried out by the Municipality of Concordia with municipalities in the region in the CIVERCON (Concordia Green Belt), a visit was made to the Northern Horticultural Center (CHN), in the city of Salto (ROU).
The objective was to continue consolidating the binational cooperation agenda that favors the exchange of knowledge, strengthens regional value chains, and reaffirms the commitment to continue promoting policies that support the growth of production, employment, and sustainable development in the region.
The delegation was composed of the Secretary of Productive Development Sebastián Arístide and the area's technical team; departmental producers belonging to CIVERCON, who were received by the Mayor of Salto, Carlos Albisu; members of the Northern Horticultural Center governance, Martín de Abreu (Salto Municipality), Javier Texeira (Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay), and Ítalo Tenca (Salto Hortícola), in addition to departmental authorities. The Argentine Consul in Salto, Carola del Río, also participated, reaffirming the commitment to strengthen the ties of cooperation and productive integration between both cities.
The agenda began with an institutional meeting with Mayor Albisu, where they discussed the importance of consolidating joint work between Concordia and Salto, promoting policies that enhance economic development, production, and the exchange of successful experiences between both territories.
Subsequently, the delegation toured the facilities of the Northern Horticultural Center, learning about its infrastructure, its operation, the management model, and the organization of one of the most important fruit and vegetable wholesale markets in the region.
During the day, an enriching exchange was also carried out with producers who carry out their activity at the CHN, who shared their experiences, production and commercialization methods, as well as the challenges currently facing the sector. Likewise, a meeting was held with market operators to learn in detail about the logistics, commercial operations, and the mechanisms that allow for the optimization of the distribution of production.
To close the visit, a space for questions and exchange was developed among the participants, with the commitment to continue strengthening cooperation between both cities.
Arístide highlighted the importance of these types of initiatives to continue building opportunities for the local productive sector: “Concordia has enormous productive potential and our challenge is to generate the conditions for it to continue growing. Learning about successful experiences like that of the Northern Horticultural Center allows us to incorporate tools, strengthen the work of our producers, and continue building public policies that boost the economic development of our city.”
Likewise, he added that “regional integration and the articulation between the State, the private sector, and producers are fundamental to generate new opportunities, improve competitiveness, and promote sustainable growth that benefits the entire community”.
The activity was organized by the Secretariat of Productive Development of the Municipality of Concordia, within the framework of CIVERCON, and was also developed as part of the Infrastructure and Development Plan towards the Bicentennial, a strategy that promotes the articulation between the State, the private sector, and the different actors of the productive framework to strengthen economic development, foster entrepreneurship, and generate new opportunities for the city.
