Within the framework of the Infrastructure and Development Plan towards the Bicentennial, the Municipality of Concordia and the Decentralized Entity of Sanitary Works (EDOS) continue to execute strategic works to strengthen the city's essential services.
In this context, this Tuesday the opening of bids took place for the tender aimed at the replacement and refunctionalization of valve filters, gates, and pipes for filters No. 2, 3, 7, and 8 of the Water Treatment Plant, an intervention that will require an investment of over 150 million pesos financed entirely with own resources.
The works include the renovation of valves, gates, pipes, and components linked to the filtration system of module B of the plant, fundamental infrastructure to guarantee the quality of the drinking water distributed to thousands of households in Concordia.
From EDOS, they explained that the water entering the plant is divided into two modules: A and B. During 2025, replacements were carried out in module A, with an investment of over 77 million, so it was left operating normally, and this year, the same tasks began in module B.
“First, everything related to gate valves was done, and then the filter bed. The filter consists of a mechanical part, which is the inlet gate, the pipes, interconnection valves, and the filter bed, which is sand and gravel of different granulometries, which is what retains the suspended particles,” specified Eng. Williams Sosa, Operations Manager of EDOS.
Regarding this second instance, Sosa pointed out that “in a first stage we will do the entire mechanical part and in a second, all the filter beds. The filter gallery is in a state of corrosion, which is why we wanted to tackle the mechanical part of the filter first because it is on the verge of collapse.”
The investment with own funds that will be executed between the Municipality and Sanitary Works for the replacement of the 4 filters is around 152 million pesos, with the remaining filters left for a later stage. It is a work designed to extend the life by about 50 more years,” he stated.
Finally, Sosa highlighted the concrete impact that the investments made in the last two years are already generating on the service.
“The improvements executed during this time are very important and are directly reflected in the quality of the water produced. Laboratory indicators show a significant evolution in the plant's output parameters, which confirms that the investments are yielding concrete results for the residents,” he concluded.
