With the presence of twelve council members and under the presidency of Lic. Magdalena Reta de Urquiza, the local legislative body held a new parliamentary session this Thursday. During the meeting, various projects with community, educational, and cultural impact for Concordia were discussed and approved, while heartfelt tributes were paid in the chamber.
Legislative agenda
Regarding resolutions, the council members declared Municipal and Social Interest for the Annual Collection of Cáritas Argentina, which will take place in the city on June 6 and 7. The initiative, promoted by council members Silvina Ovelar and Felipe Sastre, seeks to boost the daily work that Cáritas Concordia carries out through its parish communities throughout the diocese, assisting families in situations of greatest vulnerability. In this context, citizens were formally invited to actively collaborate with the volunteers.
On the other hand, the declaration of Municipal and Educational Interest for the XXIII Edition of the Concordia Career Fairwas approved, a project promoted by council member Celeste Fuscado. The traditional exhibition, which brings together thousands of young people from Entre Ríos and neighboring provinces, will be held on June 10 and 11 at the headquarters of the Instituto Profesorado Concordia and Instituto Hermano Septimio (Espejo 162), organized jointly with the UTN and the faculties of Administration Sciences and Food Sciences of the UNER.
Likewise, two important activities for the local calendar were approved unanimously:
The debate during the tributes: Social commitment and freedom of the press
The moment of tributes concentrated the deepest reflections of the day, marking two dates of enormous relevance.
11 years after the first "Ni Una Menos"
Council member Celeste Fuscado (JxER) opened the space by calling for the construction of a more just and empathetic society, highlighting the crucial role of families in education and the transmission of values of respect and equality as the first barrier against violence. In turn, council member Claudia Villalba (PJ) adhered to the proposal but added a strong warning about the alarming statistics of femicides. Villalba demanded the continuity of mandatory training in the different levels of the State and demanded concrete public policies for the protection of direct and collateral victims (the children of murdered women).
Journalist's Day
Ahead of June 7, council member Mauricio Rey (JxER) took the floor to recall the founding of La Gazeta de Buenos Ayres by Mariano Moreno in 1810. Quoting the Roman historian Tacitus -"Rare is the happiness of times in which it is lawful to feel what one wants and to say what one feels"-Rey reaffirmed journalism as an unwavering pillar of democracy. The council member closed his speech with a call for professional responsibility, urging to always report with truthful data, impartially, and free of bias. The rest of the deliberative body joined in the early greetings for press workers on their day.
The Presidency of the Council reported that the remaining administrative case files were referred to the corresponding committees to be discussed in the next ordinary session.
