Given the increase in drinking water consumption recorded due to the rise in high temperatures, the Decentralized Sanitary Works Entity (EDOS) has decided to reinforce the supervision of the network for its proper functioning, as well as to strengthen awareness campaigns and controls to avoid waste and unnecessary use of water resources. By collaborating and taking care of the water, there is enough for everyone and we also protect the environment.
In this regard, EDOS inspection crews are carrying out intensive control operations to detect illegal connections, unauthorized swimming pools, and leaks that may affect the normal supply, reported the head of EDOS, Jorge Mendieta. He also recalled that regulations are in force that establish heavy sanctions for those who fail to comply with them and cause waste or improper use of water, as this can affect the rest of the population.
"Due to the heat wave recorded in the city over the last few days, water consumption has increased. But we have detected that there is also waste and improper use; this can cause problems, it can affect the network pressure, and if the resource is not taken care of, it ends up affecting the normal operation of the entire network. That is why it is important to be responsible about how we use water, especially on the hottest days, which is when there is the highest consumption," Mendieta pointed out.
"In addition to the controls and inspections we are carrying out, fines have been issued in the various cases where we detected improper use, and we are also carrying out a strong awareness campaign," which is being conducted in public spaces and through social media. "We can all collaborate by being responsible in how we use water. This way we protect the environment and collaborate so that everyone has access to the service," he highlighted.
Recommendations
Some useful tips that we can implement in our homes to collaborate:
- It is recommended to check for possible leaks in the faucets of our homes.
- Turn off the faucets while we brush our teeth and use a glass of water to rinse our mouths and the brush.
- Shave outside the shower, using a plug and filling the sink basin with the necessary water.
- When washing fruits and vegetables, it is better to do it in a bowl. The water can be used to water plants.
- Use the washing machine only with a full load, with as little soap as possible, and on short cycles.
- The car can be washed with one or two buckets of water. If we do it with a hose, we waste nearly 300 liters.
By being conscious of the rational use of the resource, all residents of Concordia benefit.
