The Directorate of Bromatology of the Municipality of Concordia, in its role of preserving the health of the population from possible foodborne diseases, reminds the general public that children under one year of age should not consume honey or foods containing it.
Honey is one of the foods that may present a risk of contamination with spores of the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum.
In infants, these spores can develop in the intestine and cause botulism, a serious intoxication.
Main symptoms:
Constipation.
Lethargy and weakness.
Difficulty sucking and swallowing.
Drooping eyelids.
Weak cry.
