The Concordia dancers Federica Irigaray and Juan Ángel Olivera are artists who emerged from the Concordia Carnival and currently shine in theatrical productions with renowned actors and directors, yet they do not forget their roots in the premier festival of the city of Concordia.
Federica currently displays her art alongside a theatrical cast in the Mar del Plata summer season, while Juan Ángel shines on the stages of Villa Carlos Paz. However, both artists continue to carry their passion for dance and carnival as a banner.
Federica is currently one of the protagonists of “La Revista está en la Rivadavia”, and between rehearsals, she reviews her beginnings, recalling that she started dancing in the carnival when she was just a child and that she grew up among stones, embroidery, and feathers within a family with carnival blood.
Despite her young age but with years of experience, the artist who was a prominent figure of the Ráfaga Comparsa expressed that she feels happy about the growth of the local festival, which had its beginnings on Carriego Street and then increased until it became one of the most important events for the residents of Concordia.
Federica commented that in addition to studying for a Bachelor's Degree in Choreographic Composition, this year she completed the Diploma in Popular Carnival Festival taught by UADER, where she learned about many carnivals in the country and neighboring areas; however, she acknowledged that what is valuable is that “our carnival does not lose its identity,” referring to the fact that “ours has something as distinct as passion, fun, and dance with an unparalleled level, and soon Concordia will be a benchmark for carnival at a national level, without a doubt,” she highlighted.
For his part, Juan Ángel Olivera is currently a dancer on the stages of Villa Carlos Paz theaters with the play “El Gran show de Dinamita” and works performing at events, showcasing his dance and his art, born and sown in the Concordia Carnival.
Juan acknowledged that the passion for dance awakened in him by Comparsa Imperio was the trigger for his artistic career and that his time at the Concordia Carnival was unforgettable due to the experience and learning he added to his career, with the “Atanasio Bonfiglio” Corsódromo being a place to which he always wants to return.
Although due to work commitments they cannot be part of the Concordia Carnival today, both artists support the festival from their social media, inviting their thousands of users to experience the Concordia festival, highlighting the passion and quality of the dance and its rhythm, which is unique thanks to the drum sections and dancers who make the Corsódromo vibrate every Saturday.
The 2019 edition of the Concordia Carnival will begin on Saturday, January 19, and tickets, chairs, and tables for the VIP sector can be purchased online for any of the six parade nights, with the option to pay by credit card, at www.concordiacarnaval.com.ar
