Mayor Francisco Azcué was this morning in the Agua Patito neighborhood, where the construction of housing is being carried out, which will be destined for the relocation of families currently residing in sectors affected by each rise of the Uruguay River.
Currently, there are 15 housing units being built, with funding from the Government of Entre Ríos and the execution of the work in charge of the Municipality of Concordia, through the Secretariat of Public Works.
CONTAINMENT AND HOUSING SOLUTION
During the visit, Azcué highlighted the importance of recovering a housing project that had been left unfinished years ago: “when we began our administration, we found this neighborhood where the foundations for houses that were never finished had been built, where there were also episodes of theft and damage. We decided to resume the project and today we are advancing with the construction of 15 homes, with the intention of continuing to add more housing solutions”.
Likewise, he remarked that the homes are part of a comprehensive strategy for the prevention and mitigation of the effects of possible floods. “They will be destined for families living in flood-prone areas, allowing for the improvement of their living conditions and the reduction of risks in the face of climatic contingencies”, adding that the relocation process involves a comprehensive approach by different municipal areas.
“There is prior work linked to the schooling of children, social support, and the human development of each family group so that the adaptation to the new neighborhood is carried out in the best possible way”.
PLANNING AND PREVENTION
Regarding the possibility of the city being affected by any climatic phenomenon, Azcué recalled that the Municipality has been developing a series of preventive actions that include the cleaning of streams, storm drains, the maintenance of water reservoirs, pumping stations, and the recovery of drainage systems, among others.
“These are works that are often not visible to the community but are fundamental for the city to have the capacity to respond when adverse climatic phenomena occur. We need a prepared city, with adequate infrastructure and planned growth”, he stated.
URBAN PLANNING
Finally, Azcué underscored the importance of sustaining urban planning policies that allow for the avoidance of settlements in sectors not suitable for urbanization and guaranteeing the functioning of essential services: “planning the growth of the city is fundamental. Everything must be studied and projected with technical criteria to build a more orderly, predictable Concordia that is prepared to face the challenges of the future”.
