On Friday morning, ahead of Journalist's Day, which is commemorated this Saturday, June 7, Mayor Francisco Azcué led the ceremony in tribute to press workers.
As every year, the activity took place at the "Mariano Moreno" square, where the Mayor spoke and recalled the legacy of the creator of La Gazeta de Buenos Ayres, relating it to the challenges involved in the practice of journalism today.
On this occasion, Azcué took the opportunity to speak with the journalists present, inviting them to “give the best of each one, politicians, journalists, the private sector, all of civil society to move forward, and in that, journalism fulfills a very important function”.
It was an excellent opportunity “to recognize the work they do, the importance it has for the city and for the whole of society, although of course one sometimes may not agree with some issues”.
In that sense, Azcué highlighted that “precisely the journalist has as one of their functions, beyond transmitting information, making an assessment of that information and expressing it, although sometimes we may like it or not, and we also have the right to have a perspective and make an analysis of that activity”.
Accompanying the ceremony were Vice Mayor Magdalena Reta de Urquiza, Provincial Senator Cielo Espejo, Secretary of Productive Development Federico Schattenhofer, Undersecretary of Education Carlos Gatto, Undersecretary of Communication and Press Magdalena Molteni, Director of the Departmental Schools Julio Barrios, Chief of the Active Corps Cristian Bravo and President of the Volunteer Firefighters Association Oscar Arce, representatives of the 4th “Concordia” Squadron of the National Gendarmerie; media workers, among others.
