The Municipality of Concordia, through the Secretariat of Productive Development and the Department of Senior Citizen Policy, held a training session last Thursday on autumn-winter vegetable gardens and healthy eating aimed at older adults.
The activity took place at the San Francisco Retirees Center and was led by engineer Gabriel Zubizarreta, who provided practical tools for cultivating seasonal species, as well as recommendations related to incorporating healthy eating habits that contribute to well-being and a better quality of life.
This initiative is part of the Infrastructure and Development Plan towards the Bicentennial, promoted by the municipal administration, which includes actions aimed at strengthening inclusion, community participation, and the promotion of healthy habits in different sectors of society.
During the meeting, participants were able to learn basic techniques for planning and maintaining family gardens, as well as exchange experiences and questions about food production for self-consumption.
The head of the Department of Senior Citizen Policy, Gladys Portugal, highlighted the importance of creating these types of training and meeting spaces for older adults.
“These proposals not only provide useful knowledge for daily life, but also promote active participation, socialization, and the strengthening of the autonomy of our older adults. The garden is a tool that encourages healthy habits and, at the same time, creates spaces for integration and shared learning,” noted Portugal.
Likewise, the official remarked that these types of actions are part of a comprehensive public policy that seeks to support older adults in their development and well-being.
“The Infrastructure and Development Plan towards the Bicentennial also contemplates the strengthening of the social fabric and the generation of opportunities for all stages of life. That is why we continue to promote activities that allow for improving the quality of life of our older adults, offering them spaces for training, meeting, and participation,” she added.
The session had significant participation from residents and was part of the actions that the municipality has been developing to promote active aging, encouraging the adoption of healthy habits and the strengthening of community ties through educational and participatory proposals.
