This morning, the ceremony for the new anniversary of the attack on the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) was held, which occurred 31 years ago, taking the lives of 85 people, including three residents of Concordia, and leaving hundreds injured.
The activity, organized jointly by the Israelite Union Association of Concordia, Kehilá Sefaradí Agudat Israel, and the Municipality of Concordia, took place at Plaza 25 de Mayo, at the intersection of Urquiza and Mitre streets, at the foot of the monument that remembers the three residents of Concordia who were victims of the attack: Rosa Perelmuter, Silvia Portnoy, and Rebeca Behar.
Present were Vice Mayor Magdalena Reta de Urquiza, the Secretary of Productive Development Federico Schattenhofer, Provincial Deputy Carola Laner, council members, and members of the Jewish community, the Security Forces, and residents of Concordia.
The president of the Israelite Union Association, Marcos Embon, stated that after so many years, “the meaning of death is still not found, with this wound that does not heal for the families of the victims, nor for the friends, nor for the entire Argentine society,” remarking that the debt is “due to the lack of justice, due to impunity,” which is why he called for “memory, no to terrorism, and yes to peaceful coexistence, to peace, and to respect.”
