The three measures that the municipal administration will prioritize: sidewalk repair, street repairs, and immediate response units for complaints
Some are already underway, others are being developed, and some are part of a comprehensive strategic plan being carried out in several stages; but there are three actions that mayor Enrique Cresto has defined as having the highest priority at this stage.
“Our intention is to improve services and address the complaints of the residents. We are working on all fronts, we have a vision for the city that we are convinced we can make a reality. We know that we can move forward and build a better city with all the residents, but we are also very aware of the need to address some operational issues related to the improvement of services and the optimization of our response capacity to daily problems. That is where we are focusing our efforts at the moment,” said the mayor.
Street repair
With the asphalt plant operating and municipal teams working double shifts, repair and pothole patching tasks are advancing on the most traveled streets.
"We have a program and a plan. One is aware that both paved and gravel streets are completely deteriorated, but the important thing is that the asphalt plant, which had not been working for a long time, has been recovered and put into operation, and we have the necessary machinery," the mayor assured. "Now that the weather is giving us a break, we are carrying out the tasks quickly; there is a very good willingness on the part of the municipal employees, who know the need to leave the road network in good condition."
Sidewalk repair
In the coming days, the municipality will launch a program that will allow many residents who want to repair or build their sidewalks to have better tools available to do so (facilities for purchasing materials, technical advice, special promotions, etc.); at the same time, the municipality will advance in the repair of sidewalks in public spaces and buildings.
This measure will contribute to improving pedestrian circulation and generating employment in a specific sector of the construction industry (building supply stores, bricklayers, hardware stores, tile and mosaic factories, etc.); as well as favoring the beautification of the fronts of hundreds of homes.
Immediate response units
The municipality's technical teams are working on a comprehensive plan to improve the functioning of areas related to pothole patching, weeding, waste collection, public lighting, water leaks, eradication of micro-dumps, etc.
Simultaneously, progress is being made in the development of a mobile phone application that allows residents to communicate their complaints (specifically related to these services) immediately to the corresponding areas, from where fully equipped operational units will be dispatched to address these complaints.
Today the municipality is prioritizing the provision of services, repairs are being executed, and the requests of the residents are being addressed; but mayor Cresto's intention is to qualitatively improve the response time between when the problem or complaint is registered and the execution of the tasks that allow it to be solved.
“Municipal workers have experience and know which problems we must address with more urgency and what the city needs. We fully assume the responsibility that falls to us as public servants, and we are going to capitalize on that experience," Cresto pointed out. "We are going to generate the operational and technological tools to be able to provide faster responses to the complaints of all residents," he assured.
