The Ráfaga Comparsa was founded on March 16, 1998, a date that marks the beginning of a trajectory that would consolidate itself as a fundamental part of the history of the Carnival of Concordia. Its first board of directors was composed of family members, residents, and friends, united by the common purpose of shaping a cultural institution that would transcend time and represent the identity of an entire community.
That same year, with conviction, discipline, and a deep commitment, the task of preparing its first official presentation was undertaken. The objective was achieved in 1999, the year in which Ráfaga debuted at the corsódromo and wrote the first page of an unforgettable history. With the theme “Once upon a time”, the comparsa obtained the title of champion in its debut, inscribing itself strongly in the memory of the Concordia carnival.
In that inaugural event, Yanina Spahn was also proclaimed as the first queen, a figure who knew how to represent the elegance and charisma of the group, and whose legacy became a foundational symbol of the institution.
Popularly known as “La Tricolor”, the comparsa adopted its name in honor of the musical group Ráfaga, which agreed to sponsor the institution at the request of its Board of Directors. Since then, each parade becomes an authentic expression of cultural identity, in which its members transmit passion and energy, projecting towards the public a gust of emotions that ennobles the Carnival of Concordia.
The working method of Ráfaga remains faithful to a foundational principle: the artisanal character. Each costume is conceived and made by the members of the comparsa themselves, becoming unique pieces that reflect creativity, effort, and a sense of belonging. These creations transcend the notion of clothing to transform into true works of art.
Beyond the show, Ráfaga has consolidated itself as a neighborhood and community institution. Its rehearsals, open to residents and supporters, have transformed into spaces for meeting and social participation, where the comparsa reaffirms its condition as an extended family that unites generations and strengthens the collective identity of the city of samba.
Between the power of its percussion section, its wonderful musicians, and the shared joy, the very essence of the institution is revealed: a cultural project that, since its inception, became a tradition and symbol of the city.
Thus, Ráfaga stands as much more than a comparsa: it is living memory, it is history in motion, and it is an emblem of the popular strength that gives meaning to the carnival. Its name, its people, and its passion will continue to illuminate the parade of generations, carrying in each beat the echo of that dream that was born in 1998 and that today has become the eternal pride of Concordia.
