Eradication of Animal-Drawn Traction

Following the signing of the mutual advice and cooperation agreement between the Municipality of Concordia and the “Defensa Vegana” Foundation, the first stage of the program for the eradication of animal-drawn vehicles (TAS) in our city began.-

This first stage is the UNIQUE REGISTRY OF TAS USERS, which began in October 2017 and extended until March of the current year, 2018. The logistics of the registry consisted of a fixed physical space in the environmental services area, dependent on the environmental development unit, where interested users could approach on fixed days and times, as well as weekly territorial outreach tours through different neighborhoods of the city, where the user is offered the possibility of registering without the need to move from their area of operation.-

In this first stage of the registry, a total of were registered 500 USERS.- Together with the registration carried out by the team of environmental promoters and the group of municipal veterinarians, physical condition checks of the equines were performed, and an injectable dose of tetanus vaccine and an antiparasitic tablet were administered. Finally, they were given a certificate signed by the attending veterinarian, which serves as proof of registration and allows them to circulate in authorized spaces according to Ordinance No. 35003/12, until they become beneficiaries of the animal-drawn vehicle replacement program.

After the completion of the unique registry of TAS users, the second stage of the animal-drawn vehicle eradication program began, with the call for personal interviews for those users operating in the city's downtown area, approximately 70 registered users. In these interviews, different alternatives to replace animal-drawn vehicles were offered. Through various efforts made by personnel of the environmental development unit through the program's executing unit before authorities of the National Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, as well as the National Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development.

The options of motorcycle cargo vehicles, vocational training, and the delivery of machinery and supplies for production in various activities were detailed in the meetings with the users.

Currently, the program is in the stage of implementing individual substitutions according to the personal reality of each user.

Towards the eradication of animal-drawn vehicles TAS-

Within the framework of the animal-drawn vehicle eradication program promoted by the Municipality of Concordia, an initiative led by mayor Enrique Cresto and channeled through the Environmental Development and Abasto Park Administration Unit (UDAAPA), under the directives of its coordinator Martín Armanazqui, visits by equine adopters to the animal shelter began to take place, where horses seized during Municipal control operations are temporarily housed in accordance with National Animal Abuse Law No. 14.356 and in contravention of the ordinance on animal-drawn vehicles No. 35.003, which prohibits circulation in the city's downtown area.

This action is carried out in order to coordinate the necessary parties to provide the equines with better living conditions and is an important part of the program currently being implemented.

The work is being carried out in conjunction with the animal protection society and the intention is to provide them with a home with the spaces and care that the animal needs. Likewise, it is informed that the Registry of Equine Adopters is open for anyone who wishes and meets the conditions to adopt equines included in the substitution program.

For more information, you can go to the offices of the GIRSU Operational Unit at Av. Néstor Kirchner and Salta. From Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

We look forward to continuing to work together on the eradication of animal-drawn vehicles, providing opportunities and alternatives to their users.
