The Municipality of Concordia, through the Operational Unit for the Maintenance of the Southern Defense, under the Undersecretariat of Public Works, periodically continues with cleaning and maintenance work on streams, culverts, reservoirs, and storm drains.
One of the sectors intervened upon, throughout its entire course, is the piping of the Concordia stream, which plays a fundamental role when intense rainfall occurs, with a large volume of water in a few hours.
“These are routine tasks that are carried out by this area with the intention of keeping clean something that is fundamental to avoid domestic flooding in our city,” stated Gabriel Noguera, head of the Operational Unit for the Maintenance of the Southern Defense, an area that carries out “cleaning, maintenance, and prevention tasks in the storm drains, since the beginning of the administration and in different sectors of Concordia.”
That the streams, reservoirs, or drains remain free of waste, branches, construction debris, and other elements that have been removed during all this time “is fundamental for the water to drain quickly. The channels are essential for us,” remarked Noguera, while adding that “the reservoirs on Moulins and Concejal Veiga streets have a direct impact on the Concordia stream channel, which, if not operational, causes the Universidad, Cabildo San Antonio, and la Cantera neighborhoods to immediately suffer the effects of intense rains.”
He also indicated that work has been carried out on the Manzores stream, up to Cadario street, and there is a plan to clean the Costanera sector, between Kirchner Avenue and Maipú street.
REQUEST TO THE COMMUNITY
“It is fundamental that the citizenry understands that with small actions they can contribute to the improvement and cleanliness of these places. One action is to take out trash bags on time so that the collector can take them. It is a joint effort,” maintained Noguera.
Same request for those who prune, collect leaves, or work in construction: “There is the 105 service where you can request the Municipality to remove this waste and thus prevent it from reaching the storm drains or the stream, because that is where the problems begin. The Concordia, for example, is below the city, therefore, understand the situation of the personnel who have to intervene in these tasks,” concluded the head of the Operational Unit for the Maintenance of the Southern Defense.
