This past Tuesday, Concordia celebrated Retiree's Day with a special event at the Convention Center, which brought together more than 500 retirees and featured the participation of retiree centers, local artists, workshops, and representatives from different municipal areas.
The celebration included the participation of the Andrade Retiree Center Choir, a tango demonstration by María Noemí Oneto and Luis Humere; the Plaza Sol Retiree Center Choir, directed by professor Marcos Gowda, and performances by Mari Ferreyra, Tati Merele, and Toto Barboza. A Yoga Mantra session was also presented by Marisa Barbieri, Alejandra Schiebert, and Abigail Zapata.
During the event, which was attended by mayor Francisco Azcué and other authorities, raffles were held, along with a costume contest and various recreational activities.
HEALTH, TRADES, AND PARTICIPATION
During the celebration, a stand for the Saddlery Workshop, led by professor Ulises Mussuliotis, was also presented, where work carried out throughout the year was exhibited.
The Health Secretariat also set up a vaccination stand aimed at providing information and guidance to senior citizens.
“THEY ARE PROTAGONISTS”
Mayor Azcué highlighted the importance of recognizing and supporting senior citizens because “they are a fundamental part of our community. This celebration is a way to recognize their stories, their experiences, and everything they have contributed and continue to contribute to our city. We want to support them and create spaces where they can meet, enjoy themselves, and continue participating.”
The head of the Department of Senior Citizen Policies, Gladys Portugal, highlighted the spirit of the celebration: “The idea is to celebrate this date by placing our senior citizens at the center, creating a space where they can meet, share, and enjoy what represents them. We want it to be an afternoon of joy and participation, where retiree centers, artists, and workshops have their place and where every person who participates can feel part of this celebration,” she added.
Councilwoman Celeste Fuscado stated that “it is very nice to be able to meet and celebrate together with our senior citizens. They are protagonists of our city, they have a lot to contribute, and these spaces allow us to strengthen bonds, share experiences, and enjoy ourselves as a community.”
The celebration made it possible to highlight the work carried out throughout the year by retiree centers, workshops, artists, and spaces for senior citizen participation, strengthening bonds and promoting active, participatory, and integrated aging within the community.
With this proposal, the Municipality of Concordia reaffirms its commitment to continue creating spaces for meeting, recreation, and participation for the city's senior citizens.
