Mayor Francisco Azcué has summoned the members of the Emergency Operations Committee (COE) for next Monday, May 18th at 10:00 a.m. to analyze the potential impact of the “El Niño” phenomenon in the region and work on joint mitigation strategies.
During the meeting, the Municipality of Concordia will report on the various works and actions that have been carried out since the beginning of the administration in order to reduce the impact of heavy rainfall or potential flooding of the Uruguay River. It will also report on the development of a project that the Municipality has been managing to seek a long-term solution to the flooding problem.
The call is made within the framework of a possible scenario provided by the National Meteorological Service (SMN) where it warns that conditions in the Pacific Ocean indicate a transition towards the warm phase, with a 61% probability that the “El Niño” phenomenon will begin to consolidate starting in the May-July quarter and persist throughout the year.
According to official reports and consensus reports from the National Meteorological Service, this would imply the possibility of abundant rainfall, with precipitation levels above normal in the central and northern regions of Argentina, which could impact areas such as Concordia and the Litoral directly.
