With the start of the 2018 Carnival comes news long-awaited by the entire carnival family. The Municipality has already initiated the bidding process for the construction of the stands at the "Atanasio Bonfiglio" Corsódromo, and at the conclusion of this edition of the festival, the envelopes will be opened and the company that will begin to make this project a reality will be announced.
At the beginning of his administration, Mayor Enrique Cresto presented the preliminary project for the construction of the Concordia Corsódromo. At that time, the mayor indicated that a significant sum of money is allocated each year for the rental of the stands, and that the objective was to invest in infrastructure that would allow the use of the site all year round, provide greater comfort to those attending the different events held there, and offer spaces in better conditions for the carnival groups. This work would pay for itself in a short time, given that savings would begin to be generated on the rental costs of the metal infrastructure currently used.
"This preliminary project is the final objective; we have set the goal and we are going to work to achieve it," said Cresto at the time when presenting what was classified by many as an "ambitious project." The work is integrated into the Parque Estación Norte Siglo XXI project, which seeks to transform the three blocks occupied by the site into a space for sports recreation and a stage for cultural and popular events, such as the Citriculture Festival, the Student Festival, the Kings Marathon, and the Carnival itself.
"A significant investment is required, and from the municipality, we are working very firmly on the optimization of resources, attending to the different demands and projects necessary for the city. That is why in this stage, the bidding process was opened for the construction of the central sector of the stands; we are going to advance in different stages, concretizing the project and amortizing the investment with the savings that are generated," said the Mayor when confirming the news.
Indeed, interested companies can inquire from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Municipality's Purchasing and Supplies Directorate regarding the ongoing bidding process and purchase the corresponding specifications to participate in it.
In this regard, Luciano Almirón, Director of Studies and Projects of the Secretariat of Public Works, indicated that the bidding corresponds "to the central sector of the popular stands," the stands located in the center of the Corsódromo track, in front of the VIP Sector. "It will be the load-bearing structure," he added, given "that it is part of a general project where in the future workshop rooms and sanitary facilities will be built inside."
The start of an edition in which the city's greatest summer festival presents several novelties in terms of organization and the advance ticket sales system via the Internet has been consolidated, the confirmation that the stands are not a promise but a project underway is news in tune with the passion that the carnival awakens.
