During the meeting, the General Director of Legal and Environmental Water Management of the Secretariat of Environment of Entre Ríos, Osvaldo Fernández, raised the need to “put this issue on the table, give it visibility, and above all communicate, from the point of view of the bather regarding their most immediate and preventive action when faced with the presence of something in the water,” hence the importance of bringing together the different agencies and institutions involved in this problem at the same table.
For his part, the Undersecretary of Environment of the Municipality, Joaquín Gobetto, highlighted the possibility of addressing the issue jointly because it is what will allow “articulating actions with all the actors who will direct axes that allow us to improve the context,” adding that it is also important for the community to have preventive information to avoid situations that could affect them.
The Secretary of Public Services, Alejandro López, stated that “the important thing about a day like this is that awareness is raised and that the appropriate measures are implemented, that the necessary knowledge is available to know how to act in the face of this problem”.
SURVEILLANCE AND MONITORING
It is important to highlight that the Technical Environmental Department, reporting to the Undersecretary of Environment, has been executing the Surveillance and Monitoring Plan for the quality of recreational water at authorized locations in the city since the beginning of the year, with the aim of obtaining data on the healthiness of the beaches.
The data, resulting from this plan, are communicated to the provincial authorities that have competence in the matter, being in this case, the General Directorate of Legal and Environmental Water Management.
In addition, training is provided to lifeguards and preventive measures are taken for the application of the CIANO Traffic Light (red, yellow, and green flags); placement of signage as a preventive measure for the presence of algal blooms to generate self-care awareness among bathers.
The meeting was attended by Municipalities of the region; representatives of the Administrative Commission for the Special Fund of Salto Grande (Cafesg); the Decentralized Entity of Sanitary Works (EDOS); the National Technological University; the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI); and CODESAL, among others.
